Working Together for Waupaca County is a nonprofit nonpartisan community organization that has been in existence for one year. Our inspiration is a book called The Natural Step for Communities.
Our Mission is to engender sustainable economic, social and environmental conditions:
- Foster education, publication and communication with the public and government officials;
- Encourage organized activities focused on issues and problem solving rather than partisan ideology;
- Spearhead participation in public policy discussion and implementation.
Objectives of a Sustainable Community
Reduce wasteful dependence on fossil fuels, scarce metals and minerals that accumulate in nature.
Reduce wasteful dependence on chemicals and synthetic substances that accumulate in nature.
Reduce encroachment on nature.
Meet the needs of all humankind fairly and efficiently.
These principles are the core of both a philosophy and a practical approach to sustainability set forth in The Natural Step for Communities by Sarah James and Torbjorn Lahti.
